Hi & Welcome to Catch Fence Photo's - Motor Sport Photography forums.

So, I suppose you are wondering what we are all about?

Motor Racing of all forms must be one of the most keenly photographed sports in the world. Where ever you look trackside, there is someone with a camera, be it an accredited Pro on the infield or a keen amateur shooting through the fence…

This place is where keen Motor Sport photographers can talk about, submit, review, critique or even possibly brag about the photo’s that they have taken trackside. This forum is open to photographers of ALL levels, whether you are a seasoned Pro, or a spectator taking trackside pictures for the first time.

A few things about this board.

This board is owned & run as a hobby by myself, Ashley Hoff. While there is a small ongoing cost, this is more then made up by the quality of images displayed & at this stage I am happy to wear the cost. Donations are not asked for, but if people wish to contribute, please send a PM to myself. All discussions will be confidential.

This place is non commercial & is non profit.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to provide any gallery space for images. You will need to find alternatives before posting images. In the image forums, I will explain what is required & what is available there.

Ground rules.

(please note, additional rules about posting images can be found elsewhere):

  1. All comments & criticism of the board will be listened to. If you think I am talking a whole host of rubbish, please let me know. PM Me, make new posts, just please let me know.

If you are a commercial organisation & you feel that I have overstepped the mark, again, please contact me.
  2. Under no circumstances is this forum to become a market place for photos & it is not a Stock Gallery.
  3. Guidelines for Members. All motor sport photographers are free to register & display their images, create & reply to threads in all appropriate forums.

As stated above, images are not to be displayed for purpose of selling them. There are many legal reasons why I cannot let this happen (I.E., intellectual property, which is owned by many organising bodies & promoters), so please do not do it!
Professional Photographers are asked to consider any agreements that they may have with any agencies before posting images here.
  4. All images posted by individuals must be the individual’s own work. Please do not claim ownership, rights, etc to other peoples work. This is stealing. Offenders when caught will be moderated until the issue is resolved. If a user is proven to be claiming others work as their own, they will be banned & all posts for that user will be removed.

If you feel that someone has stolen your image, please PM me. You will also need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the image is indeed yours!
  5. The copyright “©” of all images belongs to the author of the image.

Images CANNOT be downloaded, copied, reproduced, hot linked to, uploaded to other sources or used in any other manor without written permission from the original author of the image. The web is not a clip art gallery.

for more information about copyright, please view the thread An official definition of copyright

REWORKING IMAGES - Reworking images that have been posted here on the forum is allowed ONLY if permission is sought from the original photographer. To ensure that no assumptions are made, please ensure that there is clear dialog where the permission is sought. If there is no permission given, do not post reworks
  6. While all best efforts will be put in place to pre warn, all images & all posts may be removed without notice. If this occurs, an explanation will be posted.
  7. Please do not post material that may be considered racist &/or offensive. This includes text & images. Any posts that go beyond the line will be moderated & the offender will be warned.

If you feel that a post is inappropriate &/or offensive, please feel free to report the post, either by PM or the “report Post” function.

Please do not attack other members via the PM function. If this occurs, again, please report this.

I will judge each complaint on its merit, but I do ask for most people to have a thick skin. Truly racist/offensive material will be dealt with accordingly. Petty issues will probably be ignored!!!
  8. When Critiquing images, please do so in a constructive manor. Comments of “This photo is crap” do not help anyone. If you truly do not like an image, give a clear reason why. You never know, the person receiving the critique may actually take notice
  9. When receiving critiques, please do not be offended if someone offers an opinion that is constructive. Not everyone takes perfect images each & every time. Learn from your mistakes & apply these to future images
  10. WE ARE NOT CAMERA SNOBS.

I don’t care if the photo was taken by, or you own a Canon/Nikon/Sony/Pentax/Olympus/Ricoh/Kodak/Mattell Barbie instamatic.

I don’t care if the photo is taken by, or you own a DSLR with L series glass or a 35mm disposable.
  11. You may need to seek permission from promoters before posting any images. Please ensure that you read the conditions of entry to any event that you attend, for which images posted here are gained. If in doubt, seek permission.
  12. ) By all means have fun & enjoy. If you have taken a good photo, post it. If you want an opinion, ask for it. If you have an opinion, give it.

General rules for Image posting

RULES & PREFERRED METHODS
  • Clickable links & clickable thumbs must not point to sites that produce pop ups, pop unders or point to a site that is not relevant to the discussion that the link is in relation to
  • Maximum Image size (physical) - In the interest of other users, Maximum image size is restricted to 800px. When attempting to post images larger then this, you will receive an error message when completing the post. If you do, you will need to resize the image to an appropriate size & repost.
  • Maximum Image Size (data) - Please keep all images to a maximum of 200KB. This will allow most users to view these images in a reasonable timeframe
  • Preferred methods of posting images - There are 3 methods that I would recommend to post images on these forums.
    1. - Clickable thumbs (Most preferred method) - For those who are posting images from the likes of Photobucket & Image Shak, it is possible to post clickable thumbs. This allows other forum users to review your image & if so desired, to click on it & view it in full size. Please read on under the detailed description for information on how to do this
    2. - Posting full size images (second most preferred method) - As it suggests, post the full size image inside the thread (as long as you stick to the 800pix & 200KB guidelines). Please see below for further information
    3. - text hyperlinks (least preferred method). Believe it or not, I would prefer that users do not use text hyperlinks. We know why we are here. We want to view images taken at the track & frankly a whole bunch of blue/purple text is rather boring. If you have made the effort to edit/resize/upload an image, Lets See It!!!!.
  • Photo Content - Lets use some common sense here. The main reason behind this forum is to post images of motor sport & associated motor sport activities, but regardless, someone, somewhere along the line will try & post images that may not entirely be appropriate. Therefore, the following images are not allowed & will be removed:
    - Nudity - Sure, sometimes the pit babes may as well be nude, but please ensure that the nipple area & the pubic area is covered before posting any images
    - Violence - The only time any images that depict violence will be allowed is in context to the on track action (I.E., think Paul Morris/Tony Longhurst, Nigel Mansell/Ayrton Senna, Paul Tracy/Anyone who gets in his way...). Off the track violence (i.e., in the spectator area's) should not be encouraged so please do not post these images here.
    - Images that may be considered in bad taste - You go to the race track often enough, you will see crashes. You take enough photos, you will also probably snap a crash or 2. There is no problem posting images of ontrack crashes, but we have to draw the line when it come to images that clearly show where a driver/marshall/spectator is badly hurt. Please use some common sense. Use this rule of thumb. If you dont think the 6 O'clock news would show it, its probably too much to show here as well. Also, please be sensitive to other users as well. If you have images of someones hero being badly injured (or possibly, God Forbid, critically injured), said people may feel uncomfortable with such images being on display (even though you may not be able to see anything deemed disturbing). Its probably wise not to post such images. If you have any questions in relation to this, please feel free to PM me.

Please also note, images in Bad taste also covers images of illicit Drug use, Sexual acts, racism or any other image that may incite. Please also keep images of minors (i.e., those under the age of 16) in context to the subject (motor sport) & to a minimum.
-Images that are not yours If you didn't take the image or you do not have permission, DONT POST IT. USING OTHERS IMAGES & CLAIMING THEM AS YOUR OWN IS STEALING
  • REWORKING IMAGES - Reworking images that have been posted here on the forum is allowed ONLY if permission is sought from the original photographer. To ensure that no assumptions are made, please ensure that there is clear dialog where the permission is sought. If there is no permission given, do not post reworks
  • I may add to this list in the future. I will advise if & when I do
